Where is the voice coming from/ Everything that rises must converge

Where is the voice coming from was confusing to me because there really wasn’t much going on in the story. I think it took place in around the 1950’s or 60 and was from the point of view of racist white man living in Mississippi. During the text he shot a Black just because he was black and living in his town. The text goes on telling that he was proud of what he did and was thought he was doing the town a favor by killing the black man. He didn’t show any remorse for what he did and didn’t seem to worried about be being caught for what he did. I think the main part if this story was to give readers into the mind of southern racist. The reader gets a view of what many southerners at the time thought of blacks and found nothing wrong with killing one. The man or his wife found nothing wrong with the murder and treated it as a casual thing.

Everything that rises must converge is about a white woman I think in her 50’s dealing with changing times and what her view was about blacks being integrated with whites. The woman is a little over weight and has high blood pressure so she must take an exercise class at the Y every week to help lower her blood pressure. She has her son Julian come with her on the bus ride to the Y because she is afraid to ride the bus alone since they allowed blacks to ride it too. Julian’s mom come from a higher class family but finds herself living in the middle class will she tries to live in the older times. Julian has just finished college and seems to be the voice of reason though the story. Julian’s mother through the story makes many racist remarks and Julian seems to stand up for the blacks and butt heads with his mom. The story gives a glimpse about what other people in the community think about the bus integration when Julian’s mom makes a commit on the bus were she is glad to finally be alone, meaning that there were no blacks on the bus with them. Many other people on the agreed with and her and showed that they had the same view point as her. This again made Julian made and wanted to get revenge on his mom so decided to sit next to black man after a white women had changed sits. Julian goes on thought the story trying to aggravate his mom by trying to start conversations with blacks, because he was tired of his mom be racist. At the end of the story Julian’s mom gets hit by a black woman because she tried to give the black women’s son a penny. I think this shows a little justice by showing that the racist women gets what she deserves.
