This is a picture I took at the beginning of June, just two miles south of the Kentucky/Ohio border on my way home from speaking at a conference. As it was happening, I was thinking in the back of my mind what I am about to use as my analysis now. At first, I named the picture “Cannibal” for the fact that there is a truck bed of a different manufacturer than the truck that is hauling it. I still cannot figure what the purpose of this is.
If you own a truck, or know someone who owns a truck, you know that these people are usually proud of the brand and size of truck they own. My family has a Toyota Tundra, the 5th Toyota we have owned, 3 being currently in use, and this truck replaced a Toyota T-100. We are loyal to a certain brand for our cars, for the most part. Most people are.
This picture to me represents getting over the ‘brand loyalty’ and rising above one’s own prejudice against other brands. This is actually the opposite of racism, and the goal of peace organizations around the globe. I imagine that this truck bed that is being hauled to who-knows-where is going to be put on another truck, one without a bed, and I have no idea if the truck it unites with is the same brand. I kind of hope it isn’t.
