Journal 7 Juxtaposition: Travis Hearn

Juxtaposition as a literary or artistic technique places two contrasting ideas or images immediately next to each other to make their differences stand out. In the photo we took, the single sprout of green grass contrasts the brown and gray cement and brick it is growing out of. Additionally, the grass is sprawling about without direction, whereas the cement, brick, and metal grating all have straight lines at right angles, organic shaping versus engineering.

Environmentalism is politically charged, and the delicate balance between nature and mankind's rule over it is the core concept. At what point should we leave nature to its own, or help it along?
